Week 2: The Bathroom – Spring Cleaning for the Tired, Busy, and Over It

Welcome to the second installment of Spring Cleaning for the Tired, Busy, and Over It. This week, we’re diving into a room that gets used constantly but often falls to the bottom of the priority list: the bathroom.

If your bathroom has toothpaste fossils, shampoo bottle graveyards, and a mirror that looks like a Jackson Pollock painting, don’t panic. You do not need to turn into a cleaning machine. You just need a plan that breaks things into small, realistic pieces.

This week, we’re sticking with the one-task-a-day approach. Each job should take around 15 minutes or less. No stress. No need to go overboard. And no need to scrub until your fingers fall off.

Daily Breakdown

Monday: Light Fixtures and Fans

Start with the stuff above your head. Grab a duster or microfiber cloth and give your bathroom light fixtures a wipe-down. If you have a fan in the ceiling, it likely has dust bunnies living in it. A quick vacuum attachment or even a damp cloth will make a huge difference. This is a five-minute job that instantly makes your bathroom feel brighter and cleaner.

Tuesday: Mirrors, Walls, and Light Switches

Let’s deal with the splatters and smudges. Spray down your mirror with glass cleaner or a vinegar-water mix and wipe it clean. Then turn your attention to the walls. Focus on spots where handprints, splashes, or hairspray build up. Finish off by wiping light switches and door handles. These are high-touch areas and get gross fast, even if we pretend not to notice.

Wednesday: Tub or Shower Day

This one might take a little more elbow grease. Spray your tub or shower with cleaner and let it sit while you answer emails, parent your children, or scroll TikTok in peace. After about 10 minutes, come back and scrub away the soap scum and grime. Don’t stress if it isn’t perfect. The goal is noticeably cleaner, not sparkling perfection.

Thursday: Sink, Counter, and Products

Today we give the sink and counter a refresh. Wipe everything down, paying special attention to faucets and any gunk collecting around the edges. (Here’s my favorite tool to get in those tight spaces) Then take a few minutes to go through your products inside the cabinets. Toss anything that’s expired, crusty, or just not working for you. If you have five mostly empty lotion bottles, now is the time to choose your favorite and let the rest go.

Friday: Toilet Time

Nobody loves this task, but everyone loves when it’s done. Give your toilet a good scrub inside and out. Don’t forget to wipe behind the base and the top of the tank. If your kids use this bathroom, you might need a hazmat suit. No shame. Just gloves, a brush, and a can-do attitude.

Saturday: Floors and Bath Mats

Let’s finish the week strong. Toss any bath mats into the washer. While they spin, sweep or vacuum the floor. Then mop. That’s it. You made it. Your bathroom is cleaner, brighter, and much more pleasant to exist in.

Real-Life Reminder

You do not have to deep-clean like you’re prepping for a magazine shoot. You do not need matching baskets or a color-coded drawer system. This routine is for the person doing their best, even if “best” today is just wiping toothpaste off the mirror. Every bit counts. You’re creating a space that works for you, one task at a time.
