My Favorite Springtime Ingredients

Spring has finally arrived! Oh so slowly, stubbornly, and with just enough sunshine to give me hope and allergies at the same time. While I’m not exactly skipping through a farmer’s market with a woven basket (I’m more of a shove-it-in-my-hoodie-pocket kind of girl), I do have a few favorite ingredients that make their way into heavy rotation this time of year.

Here’s what I’m loving lately in the kitchen:

1. Lemons

Bright, zippy, and wildly overachieving. I throw lemon juice in soups, over roasted veggies, into salad dressings, or just squeeze it on everything like a chaotic food fairy. Spring = citrus.

2. Fresh herbs (especially dill and rosemary)

Dill makes everything taste like sunshine and self-care. Rosemary turns plain potatoes into a personality. Bonus: I’m attempting to grow both in pots. Updates pending. Pray for them.

3. Strawberries

They finally start tasting like actual strawberries again and not sad, cold fruit imposters. Perfect for snacking, tossing on yogurt, or pretending I’m going to make jam. Which I will totally do eventually. Hopefully.

4. Baby greens

Spinach, arugula, mixed lettuces, I love the crunchy freshness. They’re the base of “I’m trying” meals like salad wraps, egg scrambles, or just shoving it into a sandwich so it feels like a health decision.

5. Garlic

Okay, garlic is a year-round essential, but in spring, garlic gets a little more gentle. I love it in salad dressings, rubbed onto toast, or stirred into a bright garlic soup when I’m feeling under the weather.
